‘Tokyo Marui FN P90 (airsoft) ’

FN P90 by Tokyo Marui
Tokyo Marui have two versions of the FN P90 in their airsoft range, although at time of publishing, only one was available. They are the STD (red dot) and TR (triple rail). They share common parts, and a TR version is easily adapted into an RD with a metal receiver, although the red dot sight itself is harder to locate.

‘P90 for airsoft, or just as a replica’
FN P90 - exploded red dot If you dont work in law enforcement, or the film and television industry, the closest you are likely to get to an FN P90 is the growing sport, Airsoft. A combat-simulation /skirmish sport for adults, airsoft uses gas or spring powered-weapons to fire, pushing a small .20g 'bb' pellet. These bb pellets are accurate in close-quarter battle situations (CQB) up to 20-30m, or up to 50m for field skirmishes, such as from sniper rifles (Note, an upgraded airsoft rifle, using a slightly heavier pellet, such as .28g can accurately hit a mansize target at 100m). The small pellet is light enough to allow airsoft weapons to fall under the 'Toy' category by UK law, rather than 'Firearms', but protection must still be worn. The Tokyo Marui P90 RD (red dot) is capable of firing 500 bb pellets per minute at full-auto, and is a popular choice for CQB due to its compact size and manueverability.

Note: Airsoft started in the East (Japan, Hong Kong) where the trend was to use accurate replicas of 'real-steel' weapons, such as the M16, MP5, etc for realism. Under supportive legislation in the west to avoid confusion with real firearms, Airsoft has flourished and established itself as a reputable sport, or activity. These airsoft weapons (rifles, pistol, machine guns etc) are almost identical in look, feel and weight to the actual weapon, but they are heavily adapted internally to work with batteries or gas, and fire bb pellets. They cannot be made or modified to fire real ammunition, any more than a plumbing pipe could. UK legislation prevents airsoft weapons exceeding safe parameters, and is strictly enforced by the industry.

The best known airsoft FN P90 replica is made by Tokyo Marui, who make two variants, the P90 Red Dot (P90RD) and the P90 Triple Rail (P90TR) with silencer, the difference being the top part (receiver). A P90TR is also made by other manufacturers, such as Well (D90F) and NeonFire, but are underpowered, and tend to be less accurate replicas. However, they are also substantially cheaper. Tokyo Marui P90s can be modified as much as the original FN P90, with different load-outs and configurations, by after-market accessories, such as steel or metal upgrades and replacement parts, sights, lasers, silencers, slings etc.

 ‘instruction manuals’
FN P90 - exploded view FN P90 - triple rail FN P90 - gearbox We've collected parts of the instruction manual and armourers book that may help when stripping the P90 or modifying the insides. There are 3 versions, the P90 red dot, the P90 Triple Rail, and the Gearbox. Although in Japanese, they should help!

 ‘Other airsoft P90's’
Tokyo Marui are not the only manufacturer to make 1/1 replicas of the P90. Wells, VB Sport, Toytec and Neonfire also make P90's, although they are more likely to be the TR version.
